A journey through the millennia
A truly special cultural experience awaits you in Traben-Trarbach: the Buddha Museum – the most diverse of its kind in the whole of Europe.
Over 2,000 Buddhist statues from Thailand, Japan, China, India and many other countries take you on a fascinating journey through 2,000 years of Asian art and spirituality. Particularly impressive are the Gandhara Buddhas from Afghanistan, dating back some 2,000 years, which still bear traces of the Greek influence of Alexander the Great.
This extraordinary collection is presented across 4,000 m² in a magnificent Art Deco building constructed by Bruno Möhring in 1906. The inner courtyard with its arcades and a roof garden offering breathtaking panoramic views over the Moselle make a visit a truly complete experience. After your tour, the museum café invites you to relax, and in the shop you will find books, statues and Asian artefacts to take home as lasting mementos.
